Woodstar sits in the quiet part of Little Exuma. Some days the best attraction is not leaving; other days, a short drive or boat ride opens the rest of the island.
A long pale sweep of sand, five minutes by car, with the Tropic line drawn through the bay. Good for a morning walk, a family swim, or the photograph everyone asks you to send home.
The park begins just offshore from Woodstar. Expect sandbars, turtle grass, coral, mangrove creeks, birds, conch, and water so clear the bottom seems closer than it is.
Reachable by boat from George Town. The stingrays glide close to the beach bar, the conch salad is the correct order, and Sunday brings the island's best-known pig roast.
Snorkel reefs sit close to the shore, and deeper blue holes mark old limestone systems beneath the water. Go with a guide when currents, depth, or distance are uncertain.
Drive south for Santanna's, Tropic Breeze, small beaches, and the feeling that the island has slowed the car down for you. Take cash; cards are not always welcome.
The classic full-day Exuma itinerary lives farther north: swimming pigs, Compass Cay nurse sharks, Thunderball Grotto, Staniel Cay, and the pale sandbars between them.
