The Quieter End of the Exumas
The Exumas are a long chain of islands and cays in the Bahamas. Great Exuma holds the airport, George Town, groceries, and many practical errands. Little Exuma is connected by bridge and feels slower almost immediately.
That distance is the point. Guests come for fewer neighbours, less traffic, long beach light, and access to the national park water around Moriah Harbour Cay.
Getting There
Most guests arrive through Exuma International Airport, then drive roughly forty-five minutes depending on stops. A car is useful for groceries, restaurants, beach exploring, and the freedom to move without arranging every errand.
Private aviation and helicopter transfers are possible for some groups, but the ordinary arrival works well: land, collect the car, shop if needed, and let the road south do its work.
When to Visit
The main guest season runs October through July. November through April is generally cooler and drier; June and July are warmer, greener, and more humid. August and September sit inside peak hurricane season and are best avoided for a first visit.
Weather still matters day by day. Boat plans should stay flexible until the forecast is real.
What to Pack
Pack for sun, salt, and simplicity: swimsuits, light layers, reef-safe sunscreen, hats, sandals, a rash guard, a book, and fewer formal clothes than you think. Restaurants are casual; the island does not reward overpacking.
Bring any specialist items with you: prescriptions, infant supplies, preferred sunscreen, allergy-safe snacks, and brands that may not appear on island shelves.
Why Stay on Little Exuma
Stay here if you want the house, beach, and water to be the centre of the week. Stay closer to George Town if you want more frequent restaurants and shorter errand runs. There is no wrong answer, only a better fit.
